Jon Watts, co-creator of Star Wars: The Lost Crew, got advice from Richard Donner on working with kids

Shortly before his death, Richard Donner discussed the casting of the Goonies with Jon Watts, one of the creators of Star Wars: The Lost Crew.

Jon Wattsco-creator of Star Wars: The Lost Crew, revealed Richard Donner advised him to work with children shortly before he died.

Richard Donner’s advice

Watts spoke to GamesRadar+ about his experience working with kids and the advice he received from The Goonies director.

“I got this advice from [el director de Los Goonies y Superman] Richard Donner, who I was lucky enough to spend time with shortly before he passed away. He was talking about casting The Goonies and said that you don’t cast kids to play a role, you cast them for who they are. This was always in the back of our minds during casting. It’s no longer a balancing act when you’re patient enough to wait for real guys who perfectly embody our character to enter the room. Because you see a lot of great actors, but what you’re really looking for is a kid to be the character.
