With James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new roles as co-CEOs of DC Studios, the two had the serious role of rebooting the entire DC Universe. The plan is expected to kick off with six films and six TV shows as part of the first chapter, “Gods and Monsters.”
While the “official” kickoff begins with that of 2025 Supermanthe animated series Creature Commandos launches the first chapter of twelve projects. The Max series will debut on streaming on December 5, and ahead of its release, Creature Commandos debuted with a perfect 100% Rotten Tomatoes rating out of 10 reviews. While the score may fluctuate as new reviews come in, it sets an exciting precedent for the DC Universe.

What’s next for the DC Universe?
As Creature Commandos is ready for a hot start with its first perfect Rotten Tomatoes score, the DC Universe is just getting started. Gunn plans to go all out with Supermanwhich will be released in summer 2025. Other films in DC Chapter One: Gods and Monsters include Supergirl: the woman of tomorrow, Batman: Brave and the Bold, The AuthorityAnd Swamp Thing. For now, the only films with a release date are Superman for next year and Supergirl: the woman of tomorrowwith a release window in 2026.
DC Universe will further parallel Marvel Studios’ progress with the Disney+ series with six additional titles aimed at the small screen. Peacemaker Season 2 will join the DC Universe sometime in 2025, with other series to come. In 2026, Lanterns legend Hal Jordan will team up with rookie John Stewart in Lanterns, scheduled for release in 2026. Other shows include Waller, Paradise LostAnd Gold Boosterwithout an official release date.
Creature Commandos premieres on Max on December 5.
