Kathryn Hahn addresses Agatha All Along’s “subversive and radical” ending

Agatha throughout ended on a smaller scale note, but for Kathryn Hahn, that’s what made it work.

In a Los Angeles Times profile, Hahn talked about her extensive acting portfolio and how she entered the world of Marvel through Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse And WandaVisionleading to its acclaimed Agatha Harkness spin-off. The series ended with both a flashback detailing Agatha’s tragic relationship with her son Nicholas Sparks and a glimpse into her ghostly future alongside Billy Maximoff, with Hahn joking that she was “happily” unaware of the reactions to the final despite the recent launch of an Instagram page. However, she praised the quality of the finale, liking “how subversive and radical I felt like I had an ending, especially a big Marvel show, so small and so tender and I have this little heart that beats.”

Hahn also weighed in on Agatha and Billy’s complicated relationship, with the finale revealing that she always knew he was the Scarlet Witch’s son because Billy had first turned her centuries-old rip-off on Witches’ Road.

I think they make a great team.

“Even though obviously Billy/Wiccan is no longer her son, there is some sort of hope for her that maybe she can do for him what she couldn’t do for Nicky. I think they make a great team,” she said. .

While it’s unclear whether Marvel will continue Agatha’s story – with the finale teasing the search for Billy’s twin brother Tommy – Hahn felt that Agatha throughout ended it on a strong note, stating, “Of course I love this part and I love Joe Locke madly, and we’ll see what the future brings. In my mind, it was a beautiful and satisfying way to say goodbye to this incredible character I had to play.”

Agatha All Along will have an awards campaign

In addition to being a critical success, Disney intends to launch an awards campaign for Agatha throughout as comedy in the upcoming Emmy and Golden Globe nominations. Hahn will also return as an alternate Agatha in What if…? season 3, with executive producer Brad Winderbaum declaring its storyline “one of my favorite episodes ever made.” The final What if…? The season will not only bring back several established stars from the Marvel Cinematic Universe to voice their characters, but will introduce an X-Men variant for the first time, with its trailer revealing Storm (voiced by Alison Sealy-Smith) wielding the hammer of Thor, Mjolnir, in battle.

Outside of his Marvel roles, Hahn’s recent performances include the Hulu miniseries Little beautiful things and Rian Johnson’s mystery thriller Glass onion: a story at loggerheads. It remains to be seen if Locke will return to the Marvel Universe for a potential Young Avengers story. Agatha Showrunner Jac Schaeffer expressed hope for this opportunity.
