The series X-Men of the nineties and its difficulties.
Wonder is a successful entertainment publishing house which, at 85 years of age, continues to enjoy good health, also thanks to the audiovisual products featuring its characters. However, this was not always the case. Indeed, the series X-Men (1992 – 1997), consisting of 76 episodes spread over five seasons, was one of the first superhero successes Wonder outside of the cartoons, since none of the previous ones had managed to reflect the adventures of the comics so faithfully. Below, we reproduce its eye-catching header.
Of course, that doesn’t mean the series hasn’t faced a number of issues before mutant fans of Wonder we could enjoy it on our televisions. Therefore taking advantage of the fact that, as already mentioned, this year it is back with new episodes, under the title of X-Men ’97in a successful season consisting of 10 episodes already released and more in the pipeline, it’s the ideal time to comment on those inconveniences we just talked about.
The company that animated the series X-Men era AS. However, his contributions had already been questioned in other previous jobs, which had ended with the termination of the contract, but Fox He gave them an opportunity they would soon regret.
And when the films corresponding to the first episode of X-Menone could count hundreds of errors, such as the fact that Domino Yes Cannonballwho would theoretically appear in the series, were nowhere to be seen, while the other characters did not cast any shadows. Furthermore, the fact that Magneto showed his naked torso or that the light rays of Jubilation Even looking like moving sperm didn’t help much.
But the premiere, scheduled for October 31st, could no longer be delayed, so we tried to organize the available material as best as possible so as not to complicate the situation further.
However, the complications would not end there, as it soon became clear that the second episode of X-Men It wouldn’t be ready in time. At this point, Fox stated that if deliveries were not completed, all payments would be cancelled.
Although at first the intimidation seemed to have worked, when they began to review the materials, they realized that no less than fifty scenes were missing and there was no time to fix them, so, in a twenty-four-hour marathon, it was necessary make an improvised cut and paste montage.
To prevent something similar from happening again, it was decided to stop broadcasting the episodes of X-Men until the situation normalized, a gap that was filled with the reruns of Super Ratón.
Fortunately, this did not hinder the reception of the series, as fans were happy to be able to see a product of Wonder which, despite being animated, did not insult the intelligence of the spectator, as demonstrated by the fact that the second chapter, despite being mutilated, exceeded the first in number of spectators.
Once the necessary corrections have been made, Fox I made the decision to bundle the two episodes into one special that aired as a teaser for the series’ revival. It was this version of the adventure titled as The night of the sentinelswhich was distributed in the international market.
Already in the third season of X-Menit was decided to distribute the animation work of the series among multiple studios, always with an eye on the calendar to avoid further unforeseen events. However, an episode commissioned from a Philippine company required no fewer than 1,900 corrections, as it had numerous visual deficiencies, which forced the addition of flashes and explosions in action-packed scenes.
We have already spoken about the severe censorship to which the cartoons are subjected. AND X-Men is no exception, as can be seen in the episodes in which he appears Yuriko Oyamabetter known as Quite deadlywhose first appearance occurred in the first episode of the third season (27 of the complete series), entitled Beyond the past, part one. For the animated version that interests us in this article, Quite deadly She had to cover the partial view of her breasts with a white t-shirt, as shown in the image accompanying this paragraph, as her outfit in the comics is much more suggestive.
It should be clarified that, in the United States, television channels must respond to the Federal Communications Commission. It is not advisable to disobey strict programming rules, especially in the case of spaces theoretically intended for an audience of children, since the consequences can be large fines for the companies that own such media.
Even though we are already in the 21st century, some censorship controls still exist, both for political and economic reasons, which is why today many people prefer to watch their favorite spaces on current platforms, which are not subject to so much control.
In order not to deviate too much from the topic, we conclude with the following reflection: if at any moment in your life you enjoyed broadcasting episodes of X-Men and you have the opportunity to do it again, maybe you will see them with different eyes after knowing all the difficulties that the series had to face before being broadcast on television.
