Dune: Prophecy takes place 10,000 years before the advent of Paul Atreides. The show also explores the origins of one of the Imperium’s powerful players.

In an interview with The liveactor Jihae, who played the role of Reverend Mother Kasha, explained how Dune: Prophecy expands the film tradition. As Truth Teller to the most powerful man in the Imperium, Kasha’s role also proved crucial in the clandestine beginnings of the Bene Gesserit.

“GOOD, it’s a story about sisterhood” Jihae said. “And how they came to be primarily responsible for the lineage of power, governing bodies, and how women ruled the world. It’s a huge difference from the moviesI think.”

Dune: Prophecy revealed that the Truth Tellers were ruthless in their mission to influence the Great Houses of the Imperium. That of Denis Villeneuve Dune: part two this was confirmed when Reverend Mother Mohiam, truth teller to Emperor Shaddam IV, declared that the Bene Gesserit are the true kingmakers; they treated Feyd-Rautha, Paul Atreides and all the candidates before them as fodder to achieve their long-term goal.


Jihae said her character exerted the same control over Emperor Javicco Corrino (played by Mark Strong), who in the first episode had already discovered a threat to the Imperium’s fragile peace. “Working with Mark was a lot of fun and we played in different ways,” she said. “And I thought one of the solutions was that she controlled him in several areas. And we ended up doing it in a very strict sense, with his allegiance to the Brotherhood and just making sure that the main goal or to ensure that the marriage went ahead…playing on his weakness.”

How Dune: Prophecy connects to the Dune films

The first episode of the new Dune: Prophecy series reveals more about the world of cinema, namely the Great Houses and the Bene Gesserit.

Earlier in the episode, Javicco agrees to marry his daughter, Princess Ynez, to nine-year-old Pruwet of House Richese; the union intends to preserve the Imperial lineage and assert Javicco’s control over Arrakis. A mysterious soldier convinces Javicco that House Richese is one of his many enemies; he suggests that he wants the wedding plans to be “settled”. The episode ends with Pruwet and Kasha dying simultaneously.



Lying is a psychic’s survival skill

Jihae said that lying is a Truth Teller’s survival skill. It is also a powerful weapon for those who can wield it expertly. “It’s a very complex task,” she said. “If you could do it convincingly. I think as a Truth Teller, or the best Truth Teller in the Brotherhood, or the most gifted, that’s an important thing to know. But, you know, sometimes people lie to protect themselves. Sometimes people lie for personal reasons. How serious is a lie? There are definitely levels of lying.
