Sony’s spiderverse continues to expand with new films

A list of films within Sony’s Spiderverse has been revealed that would come soon after the premiere of Kraven the Hunter

Sony’s ambitious plan to build its own Spider-Man cinematic universe appears to have stalled. While Kraven the Hunter is about to debut in theaters, the prospects beyond this premiere are uncertain. The latest reports reveal that while there are still ideas for future films, many of them may not come to fruition. Plus, Tom Hardy’s future as Venom is at stake.

What are Sony’s plans after Kraven the Hunter?

With the first of Kraven the Hunter is approaching, Sony has three important projects on the agenda: Spider-Man 4, Spider-Man: Beyond Spider-Verse and the television series Spider-Black. However, the company left behind other productions that at some point raised expectations among fans, such as The dead Yes Silver and black. The project led by Olivia Wilde approx Spider Womanwhich remained in limbo for years.

Following the critical and financial failures of Morbio and the moderate surrounding expectation Mrs. WebSony appears to have scaled back its ambitions for this cinematic universe. According to a recent report by The Cosmic Circusthe studio continues to constantly develop ideas, but many of them fail to make it past the conceptualization stage. I like the characters Silver sable, Black Cat, The Sandman, Rino, Chameleon Yes Scorpio have been on the table, but their films seem unlikely.

One of the more recent ideas is a starring film Agent Venoma version of the symbiote linked to the military character Flash Thompson. However, reports suggest that while these ideas exist, the chances of them seeing the light are slim. Furthermore, other concepts such as Spider Woman Yes Spider-Man 2099 have been “frozen” indefinitely.

The future of Venom

One of the most interesting points of the report is the future of Venom, especially after the events of Venom: The Last Dance. According to sources, although the symbiote remains a key element in Sony’s plans, Tom Hardy is unlikely to return to the role after Spider-Man 4 or Avengers: Secret Wars. This raises the possibility of closure for his version of Eddie Brock or, perhaps, an actor change to revitalize the character.

In recent interviews, Hardy seemed excited about the prospect of facing Spider-Man directly on screen. “I want to fight Spider-Man. “I want to fight Spider-Man right now,” he commented. “Never say never. I loved every moment of Eddie and Venom and am truly fond of them. “I would play them anytime, anywhere.”

A universe with unexpressed potential

Many fans wonder why Sony, having access to so many iconic characters from the Spider-Man universe, has had difficulty building a coherent and engaging narrative. As Marvel Studios dominates superhero cinema, Sony has struggled to replicate that success, raising questions about the sustainability of its long-term strategy.

While characters like Venom and the animated Spider-Men have proven to be solid bets, other projects haven’t had the same luck. This reinforces the need for a clearer, less fragmented vision for the future of this cinematic universe.

Is this the end or a new beginning?

Despite the difficulties, the door is not completely closed for new productions. With hits like Spider-Man: No Way Home and the animated saga Spider-VerseSony has proven that it can deliver great stories when it aligns with fans’ expectations. If they can shift their focus and prioritize projects with real potential, they might yet surprise us with new films that do justice to the legacy of the wall-crawler and his allies.
