The director of Sonic the Hedgehog 3Jeff Fowler, recently spoke about his excitement about returning to the third film in the franchise and reflected on his early career as an animator for Blur Studios working on the Sonic video games. Fowler was part of the team hired by SEGA to work on the cult classic Shade the hedgehog and now I have to introduce this character to the films.

Fowler, who directed the previous two films and the Joins The TV show on Paramount+ rates the third entry as its biggest yet. In his words, according to Weekly Entertainment“I feel like this movie… there’s so much, it’s everything we did in the previous films but more“.

Ben Schwartz talks about the popularity of the viral Parks and Recs moment.

The third Sonic the film has high expectations with the studio and with the fansand for good reason. The first two entries proved incredibly popular, with Sonic the Hedgehog 2 earn more $400 million at the box office. To top this off, the Joins Television show, which stars Idris Elba, setting records on Paramount+. The premiere of the show took place over 4 million hours watched.

Naturally, given this success, expectations are high for the third film. Toby Asher, executive producer of the franchise and series expects the franchise to grow and expand, with the Joins The TV show is the first in a series of expansions to streaming.

Added to this is the introduction of series favorite Shadow. Voiced by John Wick’Keanu Reeves, Fowler and Sonic’s voice star Ben Schwartz were over the moon when they introduced him and asked Reeves to play the role. Fowler explained how Shadow adds a dangerous new element to the story.

“‘Nervousness’ may not be the right word, but there was a new tonal element that suddenly brought out the Sonic the world seems a little more exciting, a little more dangerous. I think that’s exactly what Shadow did for this movie” he said.

Maybe “edginess” isn’t the right word, but there was a new tonal element that suddenly made Sonic’s world a little more exciting, a little more dangerous.

Schwartz is also very excited about adding the black and red hedgehog to the film, although he admits he has yet to meet Keanu Reeves (“I pushed so hard”) or Idris Elba (“We’ve done two films and a TV show together!‘”).

Sonic fans won’t have long to wait to see this epic third act

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will theatrical release on December 21, 2024. The two previous films as well as the Joins TV shows are streaming on Paramount+.
