THE Ghostbusters The franchise may be moving forward, but one of its original stars says he and another iconic character probably won’t return to the big screen. By The New York PostDan Aykroyd, who played Raymond Stantz in the Ghostbusters franchise since the original 1984 film, said he and fellow Ghostbuster Bill Murray would likely be absent from future films.
“I don’t see that coming“, Aykroyd said after being asked if he and Murray, who played Peter Venkman in the films, would return. “I don’t see where they would need us to continue. They have a brand new cast and brand new ideas“.

Aykroyd, who wrote the screenplay for the original Ghostbusters with Harold Ramis added that he supports the new team behind the franchise. Jason Reitman, son of Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman and Gil Kenan respectively helmed the two new Ghostbusters movies, Ghostbusters: The Afterlife (2021) And Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire (2024).
“I think they’ll probably go beyond the originals.what they should do,” Aykroyd said. Aykroyd did not say whether his co-star Ernie Hudson, who played Winston Zeddemore, would return in the near future. Ghostbusters projects.

Aykroyd, Murray and Hudson all played a role in the latest Ghostbusters films, starring Carrie Coon, Paul Rudd, Finn Wolfhard and Mckenna Grace. Fixed three years later Ghostbusters: The Afterlife, the film’s characters move from the fictional town of Summerville, Oklahoma to New York. There, they face a demonic spirit, Garraka, who wants to freeze the entire world.

A new Ghostbusters animated series is coming
Not only live action Ghostbusters keep it up, but a new animated series recently got the green light from Netflix. Elliott Kalan (The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, Mystery Science Theater 3000) will serve as showrunner for the as-yet-untitled animated series from Sony Pictures Animation. Reitman and Kenan will produce the animated series.
The new animated series is not the first cartoon in the franchise, as The real ghost hunters, aired from 1986 to 1991. In 1997, the series received a sequel which followed the events of The real ghost hunters aired for one season on ABC. A release date for the new Ghostbusters the Netflix animated series has not been announced. However, it would be a 3D animated series that would be different from classic 2D animated series from the 1980s and 1990s.
