The following contains spoilers for Season 4, Part 2 of Outer Banks, now streaming on Netflix.
Outer Banks Season 4 has finally started Part 2, and it has been very tumultuous for the Pogues. Their characters have once again been ignominiously maligned in Kildare, South Carolina. All they want is to find Blackbeard’s Blue Crown and sell it to make money and save their residence: Poguelandia – a place of free and critical thought, equality and diversity.
Unfortunately, they run afoul of privateer pirates and JJ’s evil father, Chandler Groff, two parties who want the relic for themselves. This leads to the Pogues being trapped and eventually mostly escaping these goons. Unfortunately, things go awry when the chase ends in a brutal confrontation: one that leaves fans wondering if JJ is indeed dead.

Who is JJ’s real father in the Outer Banks?
As Blackbeard’s treasure hunt continues, season 4, part one of Netflix’s Outer Banks, drops a major bombshell on JJ and his father.
JJ and the Pogues find themselves in Morocco during a sandstorm. He climbs a statue to find the crown, only for Groff to confront him.. JJ’s sinister father holds Kiara at knifepoint, and the former gives up the item because it’s not worth losing the love of his life. Unfortunately, Groff stabs JJ after faking an apology.
Groff hates how JJ betrayed him in the quest, even though it was deserved as the selfish Groff double-crossed JJ several times before and tried to make him a scapegoat for his own sins. JJ must bleed out and die. But before he does, he lets Kiara know that she has always been his dream come true and that she needs to take care of the Pogues.. Especially his “brother” John B, since he and Sarah Cameron are having a baby.

This is one of Outer Banks the most heartbreaking scenes. Fans view JJ as the glue that holds them together – something John B admits to in his narration. It’s not a happy ending at all, leading the Pogues to track down Groff in Lisbon in Outer Banks Season 5. It’s not about treasure; it’s about revenge after JJ was buried and denied a second chance. The Pogues can’t believe the timing of this disaster, but it seems fitting. JJ escaped death numerous times and often joked that he was almost immortal.
It’s also a poetic ending, given that both John B’s father (Big John) and Sarah’s father (Ward) experienced moments of redemption where they put their children first over their enemies. However, Groff is not that selfless or caring. He loves treasure and has no problem sacrificing another family member to get what he wants.. JJ’s life is worth millions, so he wants to go to Portugal to sell the crown and forget what he did to his boy.

JJ had a tormented season. He saw his stepfather, Luke, betray him and help the justice system seize Poguelandia, all to erase his criminal record. He then learns how Groff murdered his mother, Larissa Genrette, in an attempt to steal the family inheritance. Knowing that he had been sold to Luke as a baby, JJ eventually descended into alcoholism and made even more reckless decisions. Outer Banks episodes.
He caused a riot in town, assaulted police officers, nearly burned down a city block and endangered the team on the field. He was self-destructing, thinking he was like both his fathers. But even before that, the Pogues didn’t like his hasty ways. He always caused them to fight with the rich Kooks growing up. Only for the violence to escalate into life or death situations with criminals on their many treasure hunts. Ultimately, JJ was loyal, but a liability. Kiara knew it, Sarah admitted it and John B told her about it.
Luckily, JJ saved Sarah from drowning before Morocco and settled in. He became the JJ the Pogues wanted back. As such, the tragedy could be the catalyst that inspires them all to step up a gear. They must become hunters now, not the hunted, all in honor of their best friend. JJ’s death lit a fire under them that fans never saw. The Pogues will turn something bad into a ray of light, because they know the crown will help save Poguelandia and give JJ the other dream he wanted: to leave this life behind, start a family and raise children like the Pogues.
