The future of Horizon: an American saga remains a mystery after critical and commercial struggles Chapter 1 experienced after its release last summer. However, Kevin Costner’s western drama series is getting a somewhat encouraging update as he looks to entice fans with new material while he waits for the green light. Chapter 2.




According to Matthew Belloni of Puck, Costner set to release behind-the-scenes documentary detailing how Chapter 1 of Horizon got together. Costner’s agency WME produced the making-of documentary, featuring insights into the creative journey and challenges of bringing the Oscar-winning director’s longtime passion project to fruition. However, the documentary remains without a streaming house with HBO’s Max, which is now streaming Chapter 1has not yet viewed the footage, although they are considering it.

Horizon: American saga star and director Kevin Costner lands his next project after the difficulties encountered by his titular Western film series.


Chapter 1 of Horizon is the first part of a four-film arc designed by Costner and New Line Cinema. The series chronicles the expansion of the American West during the Civil War. Costner was first pressed into service Horizon in 1988 and presented it to Disney in 2003 following the release of another western, Open rangeeven though it remained in development hell for decades. Costner also invested significantly in Horizoneach of the first two films boasting a budget of $50 million.

However, the results were disastrous for Costner, with Chapter 1 earning just $33 million worldwide and prompting a quick (and somewhat redemptive) digital release due to its box office struggles. However, Chapter 1The financial trap of , as well as its disappointing critical reception (51% on Rotten Tomatoes) led to Chapter 2 being pulled from its August 16 release date, although it premiered at the Venice International Film Festival.

With Chapter 2 not yet receiving an exit window, Chapter 3 production, which began last May in Utah, was halted due to financial constraints. News: “I’ve faced life with people who looked down on me. But they can’t look down on me. Horizonbecause now it is no longer in their hands. And they might point to the finish line – well, that’s what it did at the box office – but I know this movie is going to be playing for the next 50 years. »


Costner stars in Horizon alongside Sam Worthington, Jena Malone, Sienna Miller, Michael Rooker and Giovanni Ribisi. While Horizon‘s future is settled, Costner has already landed his next role. He will star in, co-write and executive produce the upcoming surf thriller, Headhunters.
