Khonshu’s new Hunter’s Moon shines at Marvel

Eleanor Johnson Moon Knight, Hunter's Moon Marvel, New Marvel Character, Phases of the Moon Knight

By taking a look at a surprisingly barren and devastated near future, Marvel has planted the seed of a narrative that promises to expand the horizons of its iconic Night Watchmen. At number three Phases of the Moon Knighttitled “The Past Is Present,” we are transported to the Museum of the American Hero, a haven of heroic memories in the middle of a wasteland that was once North America. Here, tragedy soon strikes as Eleanor Johnson and her parents fall victim to unscrupulous looters.

From victim to avenger under the moon

However, death is not the end for Eleanor, but rather an epic new beginning marked by the intervention of Khonshu, the Egyptian god of the moon, who chooses her as his new Hunter’s Moon. Eleanor thus becomes heir to a legacy of warrior-priests, known as the second Fists of Khonshu, destined to protect those who travel by night. This cloak, full of almost unlimited powers and resurrection capacity, also implies a great responsibility: night protection becomes a form of worship.

The Hunter’s Moon figure is not new to the Marvel universe. The first appearance of this title occurred with Doctor Yehya Badr Moon Knight #1 of 2021, the work of Jed MacKay and Alessandro Cappuccio. Badr, a renowned Egyptian doctor, faces a drastic change in his perception of the world after being resurrected by Khonshu following a fateful encounter with vampires. Since then, he has proven to be as deadly in battle as he is devoted to his deity.

The new guardian of the night

A dramatic change of narrative we see it in this new chapter, where Eleanor, a previously unknown character, rises from a victim of brutality to become a central figure of power and vengeance. Khonshu’s selection of Eleanor highlights a significant evolution in the narrative line of the protectors of the night, demonstrating that the mission to protect knows no limits of time and space. This development is synchronized with an ever-growing Marvel universe integrate more diversity in its heroes, reflecting a global audience that seeks to see its own reflection in stories of courage and sacrifice.

Parallels between the heroes of the past and present They further enrich the plot by bringing out the similarities and differences between Eleanor and her predecessors. This approach not only enriches the legacy of Hunter’s Moon, but also raises questions about the the impact of the new guardians in the balance of power within Marvel’s vast pantheon. Intertwining the past with the present, Phases of the Moon Knight offers fans not only a story of heroism, but a reflection on how power and responsibility are perceived and managed in times of crisis.

A conflict of faith and brotherhood

Although Badr, like Hunter’s Moon, was initially in conflict with Moon Knight, who had given up worshiping Khonshu to conduct his own Midnight Mission, their relationship develops into a deep connection that transcends their religious and ethical differences. Badr also becomes a key pillar of the Midnight Mission, deeply affected by Moon Knight’s tragic, if temporary, downfall.

This issue is now available under the Marvel Comics imprint, inviting fans to immerse themselves in a future where the night is more dangerous and mystical than ever.
