Could the Midnight Sons project make up for the indefinite delay of Blade?
In a surprising turn of events, Marvel Studios appears to be shifting its focus towards a project that promises to immerse us even deeper into the dark, supernatural corner of its cinematic universe. Although the highly anticipated “Blade” film has been postponed indefinitely, rumors suggest that Kevin Feige is speeding up production on “Midnight Sons.” This move could not only expand the spectrum of heroes in the MCU, but also offer a new direction after the setbacks of “Blade.”
The Midnight Children are coming
Since the premiere of “Werewolf by Night,” which introduced characters like Jack Russell and Man-Thing, the MCU has made it clear that vampires and other supernatural entities already lurk in the shadows of this shared universe. Additionally, the “Agatha All Along” series delves into witchcraft and could open the door to enigmatic characters like Mephisto and Death.
Another hero who would fit perfectly into this group is Moon Knight, although “Blade” seems like the most logical catalyst for any kind of supernatural team-up. However, with the recent announcement that “Blade” will no longer be released next November and now has no release date, uncertainty is growing over whether Mahershala Ali will remain in the reboot, due to possible “creative differences” or agenda”.
A new approach for the MCU?
Daniel Richtman reported today that Marvel is ramping up production on “Midnight Sons” and is actively looking for a director. While “Blade” might be the first to arrive, it would make sense for the Wanderer to put together a team before starring in his own movie, similar to how Black Panther’s role in “Captain America: Civil War” led to a successful film focused solely on T’Challa.
Oscar Isaac, the actor behind Moon Knight, expressed his excitement at the idea of joining “Midnight Sons”: “There are such interesting characters there, and now that we’ve established who Marc, Steven, Jake are, it would be a fascinating opportunity to see him as part of a team and what that dynamic would be like.
Blade’s enigmatic path in the MCU
Blade, the most feared vampire hunter in the Marvel universe, has had a cinematic journey as enigmatic as his character. Since its debut in 1998, Lama has established himself as an icon of the superhero genre with a dark twist. His transition to the MCU was filled with anticipation, especially with the addition of Mahershala Ali, whose charisma and acting ability promised to revitalize the legendary character. However, the recent delays and changes in production have questioned its immediate future.
Comparing with Lama With other MCU characters having made similar transitions, such as Spider-Man or Moon Knight himself, there is a tendency for Marvel to refine their characters before giving them a larger platform. This strategy, while risky, could be advantageous for Blade, allowing him to join “Midnight’s Children” with a more solid narrative and an already established fan base. This wait may be just what Blade needs to shine in the next phase of the MCU.
Who are the Midnight Children?
Also known as Midnight Suns in recognition of the inclusion of female characters, they emerged in the early 1990s. This title explored elements of horror, the occult, and the supernatural in a darker corner of the Marvel Universe, with a team typically made up of characters who. fight supernatural threats, such as Ghost Rider, Blade, Morbius, Doctor Strange, Werewolf by Night, Hannibal King and Jennifer Kale.
In the MCU, several characters could make up the Midnight Suns, including Moon Knight, Clea, Black Knight, Agatha Harkness, and Man-Thing. However, with the upcoming Avengers films and the “Secret Wars” event on the horizon, it remains to be seen whether there will be time to properly introduce this team.
