Globally popular animated series One piece is set to release a brand new special anime this month in honor of the series’ 25th anniversary. Title One Piece fan letteranime — a short film adapting that of Tomohito Osaki Straw Hat Stories collection of short stories – centered on everyday characters from the world of One piecewhose lives are somehow changed by the Straw Hat crew but who do not seek the legendary treasure themselves.
Directed by Megumi Ishitani (One piece, Dragon Ball Super), with character designs by Keisuke Mori and script by Momoka Toyoda (My happy marriage), One Piece fan letter takes place on the Sabaody Archipelago, two years after the events of the Paramount War and the death of Luffy’s brother, Ace. The main character is a young girl from Sabaody who idolizes Nami due to her obsession with female pirates and is determined to see her in person when the Straw Hats return to the archipelago. New One Piece Animated Short Is Based on the ‘Straw Hat Stories’ Collection
Tomohito Osaki’s novel featuring the short stories the new anime is based on is told from the perspective of its original non-pirate characters. Although the collection contains nine stories in total, it is unclear if the upcoming anime will adapt just one of the stories or several, or if more anime will be based on Straw Hat Stories will be published in the future. The first three stories of the novel were originally published in the first three issues of One Piece Magazine (July, August and September 2017 respectively), with Shueisha subsequently releasing the full nine-story collection in November of the same year.

Created by Eiichiro Oda, the One Piece franchise explores the adventures of pirate Luffy D. Monkey and his crew, the Straw Hats. Since the manga’s debut in 1997, One Piece has been adapted into an ongoing anime that has seen several films. More recently, it was adapted into a live-action series by Netflix.
