The Avengers reunite in a new volume of the Marvel Gold line, the tenth, published by Panini Comics
The tenth compiled volume of the classic series by Earth’s Mightiest Heroesthat comes to us from the hand of Panini Comics under the title of Marvel Gold. Avengers 10 – Court Martialfully enters the decade of the eighties, with a Jim Shooter who acts as the greatest responsible for an era in which, despite the great events that happen, the dance of the authors is constant.

The Fall of Hank Pym
At the beginning of this volume we will find a series of issues that tell one of the most famous and saddest moments in the history of Avengers. It’s about the fall from grace of Hank Pymwho we will see here transformed into a rapist. After his return to the group as Yellow jacketPym’s insecurities about his worth ultimately lead him down the path of hatred. And this hatred ends up being paid for by her partner, the billionaire Jan Pymbetter known as the Wasp.
Hank’s violent behavior will lead him to be subjected to a court martial, led by the trinity of the group, and the tension he is subjected to due to this circumstance causes what was already a problem to become a real crisis that will end with the defeat of Wasp. by her husband in an unfortunate encounter where the scientist was in the midst of developing a super robot that only he could defeat.
Perhaps shame or perhaps frustration was what led Pym to treat his beloved this way, but the consequences were irreparable: Hornet would separate from the group, and Jan would end up asking him for a divorce. Shooter’s work in this plot should be commended (despite the fact that it functions as a subplot of a not very interesting overall story), which is perfectly developed and very well handled, especially if we take into account that we are talking about a situation that happened a long time ago.
To be honest, this must also be said, years later Marco Millar Yes Bryan Hitch They replicated this episode in the wonderful series of Ultimates They made it even better. But obviously we are talking about one of the best superhero comics in history…

The tiger is the center of attention
If there’s one character that shines in this volume (and doesn’t appear much) it’s without a doubt Tiger. Unfairly forgotten over the years, the presence of this character and the care with which all the artists who run through the series treat him make him stand out compared to his colleagues, especially when the plot focuses on him.
While it’s true that the way Shooter evolves the character may not be entirely consistent, throughout the issues in which she appears, Tigra becomes that character that the reader constantly wishes would be given more prominence. And after her exit from the series (moment in which the number of active Avengers is reduced to 3, perhaps the lowest in its history) it is possible that we will no longer see such a spectacular Tigra until she has been drawn in recent ancient times by teacher Javier Rodriguez.
Other members will arrive sooner or later to fill the ranks of the team, and it seems that the void left by Tigra will be filled very well with an equally charismatic character: Very. And the green lady will not come alone, but will do so with what would end up being an emblematic member of the group like him. Hawkeyewhose inclusion will end up giving us one of those unforgettable moments (which also serves as the cover of the volume): shooting an arrow whose tip is Scott LangHim The Ant Man.

Classic Avengers stories
In addition to these stories we can also see here the Ghost driver in front of the Angel of X-MenA Silver Surfer in a history that has The Molecule Man as bad, some truly original issues written by J.M. DeMatteisa journey into the kingdom of Avalon at the hands of Black Knight and, above all, an adventure starring the Vision and the Scarlet Witch which represents a great contrast compared to the rest of the volume.
In the graphic sector it must be said that despite the dance of the cartoonists and the absence of big names in the medium, the result is very satisfactory, giving rise to a very pleasant reading to the eye. For the rest, what we find here in summary is a volume very in line with what is expected from the classic adventures of this group, aimed above all at lovers of those times.
Him tome published by Panini Comics In hard cover it contains 496 color pages with a format of 17 x 26 cm. and includes the translation of the numbers from n. 212 at no. 226 of The Avengersits annual number 11 and the four issues that make up the limited series Vision and Scarlet Witchin addition to articles written by Raimon Fonseca Yes Jim Salicrup and an extra section with miscellaneous material at the end of the volume.
