Sayuri, the musical artist who has contributed to several notable anime series such as My Hero Academia And Cleared (Boku dake ga Inai Machi), died at the age of 28.
Sayuri’s death was announced via her official social media account on , a funeral took place. place involving only close friends and family. “We would like to express our sincere gratitude for the kindness shown to Sayuri during her life, and along with everyone, we would like to pray that her soul rests in peace,” the message read. “We ask members of the media to be sensitive to the deep grief of his family and loved ones and to refrain from interviewing those involved.”
The precise cause of Sayuri’s death is unknown; however, she announced an indefinite hiatus in July 2024 due to functional dysphonia – a medical condition that causes vocal cord strain due to increased tension of the voice box muscles. Her husband said she was “passionate about music until the very end, as she struggled with chronic illness.”
Sayuri became active as an independent music artist starting in 2010, moving from her hometown of Fukuoka to Tokyo in 2013 to pursue her music career. She made her major debut in 2015 at the age of 18 and began gaining attention from anime fans in particular that same year, when her single “Mikazuki” was used as the ED theme for Rampo Kitan: Laplace game. Since then, she has performed songs for anime, including Cleared (“Sore wa Chiisana Hikari no Youna”), The Scum’s Wish (“Parallel line”), My Hero Academia Season 4 (“Koukai no Uta”), Edens Zero “Sekai no Himitsu”) and Lycoris Recoil (“Hana no Tou”).
Although Sayuri never revealed her real name, she was particularly known for her powerful, naturally trembling voice and her often dark lyrics, creating a feeling of deep emotion among her listeners.
