Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 269 Review

Since the early 2020s, arguably no shonen franchise has gained as much popularity as Jujutsu KaisenThe hit manga was an immediate success after its publication in Shonen Jump magazine, and thanks to its beloved anime adaptation (which includes Jujutsu Kaisen 0 — the highest-grossing Japanese film of 2024), its audience has grown to rival that of the most popular shonen series. That said, Gege Akutami’s manga is not without its flaws, and nowhere are those issues more clear than in Chapter 269.

Chapter 269—titled “Considerations”—is the penultimate chapter of Jujutsu Kaisen and the latest to follow the aftermath of the jujutsu world’s hard-fought victory over Ryomen Sukuna. Unfortunately, for a chapter that is supposed to continue wrapping up the series’ major storylines, Chapter 269 is remarkably insistent on answering questions that few to no fans had, casting a cloud of doubt over the manga’s upcoming ending.

Yuta Okkotsu and his allies get a perfect ending that no one wanted.

Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 269 opens with a handful of panels showing Mei Mei and a mysterious older figure—two characters fans almost certainly weren’t expecting to see at the start of one of the series’ final installments. However, before the chapter explores the dynamics of this duo, This quickly moves on to an equally surprising view: Yuta Okkotsuwho is now back in his original body.

While it’s great to see Yuta safe and sound with his allies, the fact that he came back to his body is a bit disappointingto say the least. From a logical standpoint, it’s hard to believe that Rika was able to preserve her body with the Reverse Curse technique long enough for Yuta’s brain to be restored, and from a reader’s perspective, it significantly weakens her decision to inhabit Satoru Gojo’s deceased body.

While it’s nice to see a character like Yuta Okkotsu take a break, this drastic return to normal seems at odds with his promise to become a monster to honor Satoru Gojo and defeat Sukuna. To top it all off, another character who was at the same time worse form that Yuta had in their last appearance also makes his return. in chapter 269: Hiromi Higuruma.

As is the case with many characters defeated by Ryomen Sukuna, Higuruma was considered dead by the vast majority of Jujutsu Kaisen fanbase, as he apparently received a fatal blow at the end of chapter 247. That’s why the return of the sorcerer-lawyer was such a shock here, but for some reason, chapter 269 literally devotes no panels to his return. Much like Yuta Okkotsu, it’s great to see Higuruma safe and sound after the fight against the King of Curses; it’s just a development that seems at odds with the last time fans saw him in character.

An unexpected detour takes Jujutsu Kaisen to new heights

While Jujutsu Kaisens handling of Yuta Okkotsu and Hiromi Higuruma deserves some criticism, they are minor issues compared to the weirdest decision in chapter 269. Throughout the chapter, Several pages are devoted to Mei Mei and a quest that, frankly, interested almost no reader..

The Simple Domain technique is a vital part of jujutsu society, as it allows its users to negate powerful cursed techniques, including the effects of many domain expansions. Because of this, various restrictions have been placed on its use, preventing novice sorcerers from significantly disrupting the balance of the three great clans of the jujutsu world. However, while they are undeniably important to the jujutsu world, the Simple Domains and their restrictions were likely one of the last things on fans’ minds before reading “Considerations”, which makes the situation even more confusing when they end up playing a major role in the chapter.

Rather than exploring the return of Higuruma and Yuta for a few more pages, actually addressing the deaths of the characters killed in the battle against Sukuna, or literally any other significant development, about half of Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 269 is dedicated to the explanation of Simple Domains and Mei Mei’s decision to eliminate the figure who benefits from their restrictions. This plot seems completely out of the ordinary.and not only does it highlight Mei Mei, who is a fairly minor character in the grand scheme of things, but it also introduces a previously unseen and ultimately insignificant villain into the mix.

For a manga only two chapters away from its conclusion, it’s not unfair to say that these pages would have been much better used elsewhere, and while Chapter 269 remains faithful to Jujutsu KaisenThe characters and overall tone of , The chapter also features some of the series’ worst traits. Unwanted explanations, unnecessary character revivals, and a general lack of direction not only hold “Considerations” back, but also create what is arguably the worst chapter of the entire manga. Even if chapter 269 wasn’t bad enough to ruin Jujutsu Kaisen, This has certainly cast a cloud of doubt around the last two chapters of the beloved shonen.
