Anniversary of Image Review 1

Planeta Cómic publishes the first volume of Image Anniversary, an anthology that celebrates the thirty years of one of the American publishers that has given us the most joy

In 2022, it will be 30 years since some crazy people decided to leave the big comic book publisher they worked for with the goal of creating their own company, where the authors would have all the weight and all the credit. In commemoration of this event, Image Comics They decided to publish an anthology of short stories always linked in some way to the publisher. Taking advantage of the fact that 30 years ago Planet Comics We started publishing Image Comics in our country, now we can have the first volume of this curious compendium of comics.

Comic Planet

30 years of history

Rob Liefeld, Whilce Portacio, Erik Larsen, Marc Silvestri, Jim Lee, Todd McFarlane And Jim Valentino were responsible for the creation of Image Comics in 1992. Although the stories they initially began publishing are remembered more for their aesthetic filled with the excesses of the 1990s (the same excesses these cartoonists had popularized in Marvel Comics), the type of comics they published slowly changed and evolved into what they are today: the best place to find good stories.

Probably the publisher’s greatest successes (if we talk about both sales and quality of the published material) came with the new century, with successful titles such as The Walking Dead the Invincibleboth coming from the mind of Robert Kirkmana sort of weight in the current organizational chart of the company, which had already been preceded by equally interesting works such as those signed by an emerging talent like Mr. Brian Michael Bendis (Powers).

From this point on, the flow of absolutely indispensable works is constant up to the present day, with award-winning titles such as Radiant Black the Saga. And what we find in this volume is a good example not only of the publisher’s legacy, but also of the good health enjoyed by its current publications…

Authors of the highest level

In Spain we will be able to see these stories, contrary to what happened in their original edition, arranged in such a way that their reading is more pleasant. In this first volume (the first of the two) we find some gems, of which probably the most notable is the small episode of the series Ice cream shop perpetrated by W. Maxwell Prince, Martin Morazzo And Chris O’Halloran. In just 8 pages, this group offers us in a compressed way the particular cynical and at the same time sincere and accurate vision of the current world that we can find in its regular series. Not suitable for those looking for a light-hearted read.

Another great milestone of this volume is The snowstormthe story signed by Andrea Mutti, Geoff Johns And Rob Leigh which is by far the largest in terms of volume. Here we will meet a group of prisoners transported on a bus that suffers an accident due to the storm. Isolated, they must now survive what is hidden in the jungle while facing their sins of the past in a story told at a good pace in which a John out of his comfort zone proves that he does not only dominate the field of superheroes.

As for previews and exclusive pages of the series currently in development, we will find the long-awaited return of The professionalthat even if it doesn’t have it here My Friend Garth Ennis yes, we have a Jimmy Palmiotti already one Amanda Conner who assure that they don’t miss much. And what to say about it Jeff Lemire, Steve Chopsticks and the preview of what will be the second volume of Royal City

Written by Scott Snyder And Athlete They’re terrorizing us again Witches. Kelly Sue DeConnick, Emma Rios And Jordi Bellaire They immerse us again in the beautiful world of Beautiful Death. Declan Shalvey And Mr. Clayton They unleash all the action they have inside Old Dog. John Arcudi And James Harren amaze with their Rhombus. Matt Fraction And Gabriele Ba they enjoy themselves with Casanova. And this is just to name a few of the authors featured in this volume…

In short, this volume will appeal both to the reader who wants to take small bites of some of the most cutting-edge series of the moment (finding a few gems) and to the one who seeks to see what the best authors of today are capable of doing.
