The Most Underrated Characters In Bleach: TYBW, Ranked

When an action anime series like Bleach The game has a very large cast of characters, but there simply isn’t enough room for each of them to show off the full extent of their powers and skills. Protagonists like Ichigo Kurosaki and Uryu Ishida will have every chance to demonstrate their best techniques multiple times, while supporting characters will be limited to one or two fights. And even then, these characters may be killed or interrupted before they can show off the full extent of their powers.

Such a weak impression can lead viewers to underestimate certain characters, and no one can blame them. Bleach Fans are thrilled about this. It’s easy to forget how powerful a character is when they’re denied the opportunity to show what they’re truly capable of, and fans won’t remember the brief lines of dialogue where characters explain what their full power is supposed to look like. This is the case in every phase of Bleachthe story of, including the Thousand Year Blood War story arc, which featured heroes and villains who are stronger than fans realize.

10 Giselle Gewelle can take control of an entire enemy army

First episode: “THE LAST 9 DAYS”

Giselle Gewelle, or Sternritter Z, had a good chance to show a lot of her power in the recent Bleach anime, so she is somewhat underrated and ranks lowest among the most underrated TYBW characters. Yet, the fact remains that Giselle is stronger than she showed in the animeand its power is one of many that have no conceivable upper limit.

Giselle can spray her blood on people to take control of them and turn them into her “zombie” servants, living or dead, and she can also control dead Quincy, such as Bambietta. In theory, Giselle could take command of an entire army of zombies of any power level, and the only thing stopping her was Captain Kurotsuchi’s countermeasures.

9 Quilge Opie’s ability failed to capture Ichigo but is still effective

First episode: “The foundation stones”

Quilge Opie had the benefit of plenty of screen time early in the season. Bleach: TYBW anime, where he led a battalion of Quincy troops across the desolate desert world of Hueco Mundo. When his enemies attacked, Quilge began to display more and more of his powers, ranging from his spear to Ransotengai and Sklave Rai, among others.

Quilge even showed his powerThe Prison, and used it to contain Ichigo Kurosaki for a short time until the latter escaped. This made it seem like Quilge’s unique ability was flawed, but in reality, it only failed because Ichigo was a special case, while any other enemy would be securely trapped, a fact viewers may have forgotten.

8 Meninas McAllon can throw huge buildings at people with little effort

First episode: “Anger like lightning”

Meninas McAllon poses with bleach.

Many Sternritter are underestimated in the new Bleach anime, often because they haven’t had much screen time to give fans a glimpse of their abilities and skills. Even when characters like Meninas have clearly shown what they can do, these scenes are brief and inconsequential, making it easy for viewers to forget what their true abilities are.

Meninas McAllon is Sternritter P, who uses The Power to augment her muscles and perform feats of incredible strength, starting with powerful punches that can send Soul Reapers flying. She has also been seen casually lifting a massive structure with one hand to throw it at a squad of Soul Reapers, which is an astonishing feat that is all too easy to overlook.

7 Candice Catnipp can perform devastating lightning attacks in combat.

First episode: “THE LAST 9 DAYS”

Candice Catnipp with her energy wings in Bleach

Candice Catnipp is one of those shonen villains who could have done well against most opponents.but had the misfortune of running into the protagonist. Candice and her allies had an easy time defeating Kenpachi Zaraki after he exhausted himself fighting Gremmy Thoumeaux, but when Ichigo arrived with his final zanpakuto, Candice’s luck ran out.

Candice performed powerful lightning attacks via The Thunderbolt, but it was ineffective and Ichigo easily defeated her. In short, Candice became a jobber for Bleach‘s star, but if she had faced a Soul Reaper lieutenant or even some captains, she would have dominated the fight with her electric attacks and Quincy wings.

6 Nianzol Weizol is almost untouchable against most opponents

First episode: “THE LAST 9 DAYS”

Nianzol Weizol sticks out his tongue in Bleach: The Thousand-Year Blood War.

It was only for a brief period that Sternritter W, Nianzol Weizol, actually fought anyone in the new Bleach anime. In fact, he almost never “fought”, as his power, Wind, was largely defensive. With Wind, Nianzol can deflect any attack away from him, and he can even use it instinctively. It’s not 100% foolproof, but it’s still very effective.

Most Soul Reapers would be baffled if they faced Nianzol, especially those who rely on melee attacks and direct tactics, such as Renji, Izuru Kira, and even Kenpachi himself. Nianzol only lost because Senjumaru Shutara of the Royal Guard/Squad 0 had the right sewing skills to bypass Nianzol’s The Wind ability and defeat him.

5 Askin Nakk Le Vaar has the potential to poison anyone to death

First episode: “The March of the StarCross”

Askin Nakk Le Vaar speaks in Bleach with his hood down

In the animated version of Bleach: The Thousand Year Blood WarSternritter D Askin Nakk Le Vaar ranks in the middle among the most underrated characters because he had the misfortune of fighting the right people to counter his ability. Askin has the incredible ability to poison his enemies to death with The Deathdealing simply by altering the dosage threshold of certain substances to make them toxic.

Against most enemies, Askin could have easily achieved victory by turning the enemy’s blood toxic to normal levels, but the members of Squad 0 had a way around this. When Askin used The Deathdealing on Oetsu Nimaiya, the latter called upon Kirinji to cleanse and restore his blood, sparing him a horrible fate. The only reason fans don’t underestimate Askin further is the fact that he earned a spot in the Schutzstaffel, or Yhwach’s personal guard unit.

4 PePe Waccabrada can easily turn his enemies against each other

First episode: “Anger like lightning”

Pepe Waccabrada looks happy in the Bleach anime.

Pepe Waccabradaor Sternritter L, is one of the many TYBW villains who only provided a sample of his power before suffering a quick defeat.. Given the chance and with the right tactics, PePe could have changed the course of the battle considerably with his ability, called Love. With it, he can imprint a heart on someone to gain partial control over them.

Anyone affected by The Love will only be loyal to PePe, fighting for him, and possibly following certain orders. PePe was seen using this on Shuhei Hisagi and Meninas McAllon before Liltotto killed him, meaning The Love by no means showed his full potential. It’s tempting to think of PePe as a comedic character with a weak ability, but he could have actually dominated the battlefield.

3 BG9 has a sturdy body and a giant Chaingun for arms.

First episode: “Killing the shadow”

BG9 attempts to kill Lieutenant Omeada in Bleach

The mysterious Sternritter K, BG9, has shown very little of his true power. This Quincy robot didn’t use his Schrift, he didn’t even reveal what K stands for, so BG9 left a lot on the table and is thus greatly underrated. There’s also BG9’s massive right machine gun arm, which probably could have taken down countless Soul Reapers on the battlefield.

BG9 is also taken lightly as he stole Soi Fon’s cannon-like bankai but failed to use it in any meaningful way. Then, when all the stolen bankai were restored, Soi Fon crushed BG9 with ease, and Sternritter K ended up being executed for his failure, alongside Sternritter I, Cang Du.

2 Driscoll Berci has no limits to his power

First episode: “The March of the StarCross”

Sternritter O, the brutal Driscoll Berci, had one of many Schrifts that seemingly had no upper limit. Such powers could have taken over any battlefield, but for the sake of the plot, abilities like these tend to be foiled before they reach that point. In this case, Driscoll can use The Overkill to empower himself by killing the people around him, friend and foe alike.

It was Driscoll who killed Chojiro Sasakibeand he would have killed Shuhei Hisagi if Yamamoto hadn’t interfered with the deadly force. This means that Driscoll could have become one of the strongest Quincy alive, but he only served as a jobber when Yamamoto arrived to seek revenge for Chojiro’s earlier murder.

1 Chojiro Sasakibe is strong enough to injure Yamamoto himself

Episode One: “Renji’s Showdown”

Lieutenant Chojiro Sasakibe is the most underrated character in the entire TYBW story arc. as the gap between his actual power and his perceived power is enormous. He made a weak first impression in the fondly remembered Soul Society arc, when he barely activated his rapier-like shikai before Ichigo crushed it with casual ease.

As for his bankai, Chojiro had a powerful lightning-based bankai, one that Yamamoto found very impressive, but fans never saw him use it. Instead, Driscoll stole it and killed Chojiro, and Driscoll failed to seriously injure Yamamoto with this stolen bankai. It is implied that Chojiro was quite strong, to the point that he injured Yamamoto’s forehead during a fight, but he never lived up to this potential on-screen.
