Deadpool and Wolverine made the most of the MCU’s multiverse with a variety of special guests as well as variations of the titular characters. Concept art submitted for the film featured another variation that would have merged Deadpool and Wolverine together, and while it wasn’t used, the artwork reveals what “Wolverinepool” could have looked like had he been retained.

On Instagram, conceptual artist David Masson shared some of the featured artwork Deadpool and Wolverine design variations. One of those that was rejected was a version of Deadpool and Wolverine that combined features of both characters. Masson noted in the caption that the design “was not retained, unfortunately” while proposing possible names for the variant such as Wolverinepool, Wolverpool and DeadverineIn any case, a preview of the mash-up variant can be seen below.

Another unused design variation was revealed by Masson. Called Punkpool, this character mixed the appearance of Spider-Punk, who is voiced by Daniel Kaluuya in the Spider-Verse franchise, with Wade Wilson’s Deadpool costume. This is another fun concept that could have been interesting to see on the big screen, even if there wasn’t enough room to include much of it. There were also alternate ideas for Logan that didn’t make it into the film, such as including Danny DeVito as a shorter version of Wolverine.

Given the success of the film, it seems like Marvel Studios has the opportunity to explore the multiverse further. The Avengers If the other movies are anything to go by, Deadpool could be getting a fourth movie, perhaps even joined once again by Wolverine. As the MCU’s exploration of the multiverse continues, it’s unclear what other variants could appear in the future, meaning ideas like Deadpool-verine could eventually come to fruition.
