Madman Integral 3 Review

Mike Allred, Laura Allred and Han Allred are the main people responsible for the third complete volume of Madman, the legendary series that Planeta Cómic publishes in deluxe volumes.

We have reached the halfway point of the collection which includes the series in complete format. Crazy, published by Comic Planet. This is an atypical volume since here we will find the titles The Atomics And Red Rocket 7fundamental in the mythology of this charismatic character with the red lightning bolt on his chest.

The Atomics

The volume opens with the story of a group composed of the transcriptions of the mutants of Marvel Comics which is a real love letter to those stories of The House of Ideas and it works like this spin off by Madman. The youthful humor that permeates all these pages and the characterization, both physical and character-wise, of the main characters is something that we will find again years later in that adventure entitled X-Statixwhich might make The Atomics seem like a dress rehearsal for the future.

Here we will find, apart from the character that gives the name to the mother series, all the elements that make the unconditional fans of these authors love their work, so it is a safe bet that no one will miss the main series of this volume.

Red Rocket 7

The appreciation that comes from it is well known. Mike Allred He loves music and when you mix that love with the retro sci-fi he always includes in his stories, the result is this lysergic adventure.

We will have as protagonists the seven clones of Red rocket created by their faithful guardian robot when the creatures known as Infinite They leave him for dead. Now they are disbanded in the 50s and it is the seventh of them, the one with the creativity of the original, who will begin an adventure that will lead him to interact with the great rock legends of the time.

Elvis Presleythe The Beatles, Little Richard, The Dandies Warhol, for him Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Bob Dylan, My Friend Jim Hendrix, David Bowie (remember that Allred himself made a comic about this idol called Bowie: Stardust), Nirvana or the author’s group will be some of the stars that this clone will help in some way, like in some sort of Forrest Gump he was psychedelic and harmonious. But he himself will be the protagonist of his own story, in which he will experience firsthand all the evils, glories, relationships and vicissitudes related to this type of music star.

With this story every lover of rock’n’roll You will enjoy delighting in all the winks and details that can be found in a story that works on multiple levels but that could be criticized for not being published here in the appropriate format, since originally this graphic novel had a square format, as if it were a vinyl record, and with the conversion to this volume it has a strange reading experience since each page of the story is contained in the upper two-thirds of each page of the volume. Of course we can enjoy the type of animation flip book From Frank Einstein which they thought it appropriate to insert in the lower area with great success…

More pop madness

In the graphics section, not to change, we find the incredible couple formed by Mike and Laura Allred. Although it may be hard to believe, this duo has been doing the same thing for decades, staying true to their style and maintaining a barely noticeable evolution. Even so, looking at their work over the years, you can see small improvements related mainly to the narrative.

And it is precisely this pop aesthetic to which they are both devoted that makes these stories so comfortable. Regardless of the tone of the issue in question, the fact of finding yourself in this world full of color and fantasy makes you feel good, like spending an afternoon in one of those pleasant and welcoming places that everyone has. You can ask little more from an artistic team than to convey that feeling to the reader with their art.
