Since the release of Avengers: Endgame and the conclusion of “The Infinity Saga,” fans are divided about the current state of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Major hits like Spider-Man: No Way Home And Deadpool and Wolverine are contrasted by disappointing performances like The Wonders, Secret InvasionAnd Ant-Man and the Wasp: QuantumaniaThe planned climax of this new saga was originally planned as a two-part epic: Avengers: Kang Dynasty And Avengers: Secret Wars. However, due to external controversies, the former became Avengers: Judgment DayThis latest change, coupled with the MCU’s overabundant and variable-quality content, has left fans believing the franchise is directionless, but a potential solution could be found by introducing a group of characters that fans have been eagerly awaiting for years: the X-Men.

20th Century Fox’s X-Men franchise proved to audiences that it was possible to tell thrilling stories based on comic books. Not every installment was critically acclaimed, but for the most part, the series is one that is fondly remembered. Since Disney’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox in 2019, the future of the X-Men has been on everyone’s mind.. However, aside from continuing the successful Deadpool series, along with a few hints here and there, Marvel seems to be saving the X-Men for future installments. With everything so confusing and uncertain, Marvel’s best option might be to scrap its initial plans and shoot for the stars, as fans want them Avengers vs. X-Men movie.

Robert Downey Jr. Returns as Doctor Doom

RDJ’s Ending Could Be a Desperate Move by Marvel That Ends Up Damaging the Legacy of a Beloved Character

Doctor Doom in Fantastic Four 2005

Anecdote about Robert Downey Jr.

Robert Downey Jr. has played the role of Tony Stark in nine films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Iron Man (2008), Iron Man 2 (2010), The Avengers (2012), Iron Man 3 (2013), Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), Captain America: Civil War (2016), Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), and Avengers: Endgame (2019).

The 10 Best Doctor Doom Variants, Ranked

Doctor Doom has appeared in several powerful forms and variants across the Marvel Multiverse, from Doom 2099 to God Emperor Doom and beyond.

At San Diego Comic-Con 2024, Marvel revealed the new title Avengers: Judgment Daywith the return of Robert Downey Jr., this time as another metal-masked superhero: the iconic Doctor Doom. The announcement was polarizing, to say the least. Some fans were thrilled to see RDJ return to the franchise that relaunched his career, while others couldn’t help but point out the obvious: This move seems desperate.

It’s no secret that Marvel has been struggling financially with some of its recent films and TV series. However, this announcement was seen by fans as a cheap ploy to get people back to the movies. On top of that, the film will also see the return of the Russo brothers as directors, known for helming blockbusters like Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity WarAnd Avengers: Endgame.

There are virtually no plot details doomsday For now, though, it’s hard not to speculate about Marvel’s plan for RDJ in the role. Fans have expressed their desire for a classic Doctor Doom, and many fear Marvel will turn the character into another multiversal cameo. Doctor Doom could be Marvel’s Darth Vader, an iconic villain rivaling Thanos and Loki. But for now, this could be Marvel’s riskiest move yet.

It’s too early to judge whether this choice will succeed, but fans are already meeting a variation of Doctor Doom before seeing the classic version. It could be incredibly disappointing to meet a version of an iconic character, rather than the incredible character in the first place. That said, it’s important to recognize that this approach has worked before. Spider-Man: No Way Home We saw the return of classic villains, such as Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin, Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus, Jamie Foxx’s Electro, not to mention Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Men. The main difference was that these actors had defined the roles they were playing; Robert Downey Jr. Was Iron Man, Not Doctor Doom.

Audiences have every reason to trust Marvel, especially with an idea as bold as this, but their skepticism is also justified. Some have gone overboard in their criticism, but the fear that Marvel could ruin a fan-favorite villain is legitimate. Given this uncertainty, Marvel might be better off pursuing a new idea, one that has already proven itself. That being said, other fans of the franchise feel that Kang should have simply been recast, instead of moving on to Robert Downey Jr. Unfortunately, even before all this drama, the evil Kang has come across as the big bad that wasn’t meant to be.

10 Great Movie Villains Who Deserved More Screen Time

While they are notable characters, movie villains like Proximus Caesar and Gorr the God Butcher could have been further developed.

It is infamous that in his first fight, Kang lost to a bunch of ants. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. The original idea for Doomsday, Avengers: Kang Dynastywould have seen the titular villain grow in power and take control of the multiverse. While only Marvel creatives know what the plan was for Kang, from what audiences saw, he didn’t appear to be much more than your average space-bound conqueror.

Kang’s only major advantage was his notoriety in the comics. And even then, he was overshadowed by another Marvel villain that same year. One who was a minor D-list comic book villain, done in a fresh, exciting, and nasty way in Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 3The Great Evolutionary was a villain to be remembered. Kang was not.

Kang has had some successful appearances, however, including in the Disney+ series Loki. Although presented as a variant, He Who Remains created an intriguing threat to the multiverse. The concept of thousands of versions of the next Avengers-level threat was enticing, and the post-credit scene in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumaniafeaturing the collision of Kang variants, was an exciting tease. However, Due to controversies surrounding Kang’s actor, Jonathan Majors, Marvel fired him, leaving that plot thread unresolved.. The final of Loki Season 2 builds to a conclusion, with the TVA focusing on locating these variants and stopping them once and for all.

It’s a tangled web of plot threads and uncertain futures, but it’s important to understand this context to explain why the X-Men would be the better choice. Not only is Marvel’s proposed plan for the next few years polarizing fans, it’s also embarking on a long, arduous journey through a story that didn’t resonate with audiences to begin with. Add to that the incredible financial risk involved, and oddly enough, the X-Men are the safer option. Fans are eager to see the X-Men in the MCU, and are kicking off their introduction with a Avengers vs. X-Men the movie would be nothing short of amazing.

The X-Men Could Save the Marvel Cinematic Universe

The limited amount of X-Men content released has always resonated with audiences

  • Kevin Feige had two conditions for the series. The original X-Men voices had to return and the original theme song had to be included.

X-Men ’97: New Characters Confirmed for Season 2

Several fan-favorite characters from the pages of Marvel Comics officially make their debut in X-Men ’97 in the series’ second season.

In the meantime, Deadpool and Wolverine absolutely dominates theaters, crossing the billion-dollar mark and propelling Marvel to become the first franchise to surpass the $30 billion threshold at the box office. The film pays homage to the source material and past 20th Century Fox films, delighting fans of Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine and Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool. Audiences were also treated to some big returns from Marvel films past, including Dafne Keen’s Laura Kinney/X-23 from the 2017 film LoganWith such a massive return on investment and actors eager to see the future, it’s likely that Deadpool and the Wolverines will continue in the MCU.

Despite their relatively limited appearances, It’s clear that mutant and X-Men characters in Marvel media are just getting startedIt’s time for the MCU to fully embrace these characters as the stars they truly are. Fans can’t wait to see Deadpool team up with Spider-Man and Daredevil, Wolverine take on the Incredible Hulk, and the X-Men take on Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.

While the previous X-Men series was a mishmash of genres, it does have some classic gems that comic book fans remember as the best. There are so many stories to tell that Marvel could focus exclusively on the mutants and still have enough material for multiple movie phases and storylines, independent of anything Avengers related. And under the right leadership of Kevin Feige, the X-Men could become the new pillars of the MCU.
