It looks like DC Studios is moving forward with Paradise Lost, James Gunn and Peter Safran could have gotten a creative team for a series set in Themyscira without Wonder Woman.

When DC Studios announced its plans for “Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters” at the end of last January, one of the most exciting projects was the Paradise Lost TV series. While Superman and Batman have received big-screen reboots, there’s been no mention of Wonder Woman beyond a TV show that seems to explore Themyscira’s past, long before the birth of Diana Prince.

The series on Themyscira

Filmmaker Patty Jenkins has since confirmed that she won’t be returning to Wonder Woman 3, while Gal Gadot has hinted that she is the DCU’s Wonder Woman, only for insiders to dismiss the idea. All this time, James Gunn has remained silent about Amazon Warrior.

Today, Nexus Point News shared an update on Paradise Lost , that Kira Snyder and Janet Lynn are in talks to helm the HBO/Max series. Snyder (no relation to Justice League director Zack Snyder) is best known for writing and producing The Handmaid’s Tale and The 100. As for Lynn, she counts titles like Bones and Bridgerton among her credits.

Exploring the beginnings of Themyscira

“Set in Themyscira, home of the Amazons,” the show’s official description says, “this drama focuses on the genesis and political intrigue of an island girl.”

That’s all we have for now, and even if it does get a creative team, it’s clear that Paradise Lost is still years away from hitting our screens. It’s clear that Wonder Woman won’t be moving on after that, and until then, Gunn and DC Studios CEO Peter Safran have no problem introducing a new, much younger version of Diana.

As mentioned, Wonder Woman and Wonder Woman 1984 writer and director Patty Jenkins received a showdown from the studio and confirmed last May that the planned third installment would not happen.

Vision of Patty Jenkins

Asked if the film has been scrapped, the filmmaker said, “Yes, temporarily, but maybe forever.” As for whether another director would replace her, Jenkins replied, “No, they’re not interested in doing any Wonder Woman right now.”

“What is happening with DC is not an easy task,” he added. “James Gunn and Peter Safran should follow their own hearts in their plans. I don’t know what they intend to do and why…I am saddened by how big the job is.

The Secret of Wonder Woman

Wonder Woman’s future in the DC Universe is uncertain. As Paradise Lost slowly progresses, fans are wondering what will happen to Diana Prince. While the series is expected to explore the roots and political complexities of Themyscira, Wonder Woman’s absence is notable and leaves a big unknown as to how she will fit into the future of the DCU.

Introducing a new, younger Wonder Woman could be a strategic move to refresh the character and align her with the studio’s new creative direction. With Gunn and Safran at the helm, fans can only hope that this fresh vision will bring exciting new stories that celebrate the iconic character’s legacy.

The wait continues

In the meantime, fans will have to be patient and stay tuned for news regarding Paradise Lost’s development. With a creative team experienced in creating complex and rich stories, the series promises to be a deep and fascinating exploration of Themyscira, even without its most famous daughter.

Although Wonder Woman will not appear in Paradise Lost, the series has the opportunity to provide a fascinating look at the Amazon world, setting the stage for future stories in the DC Universe.
