The creators of Cobra Kai and the people behind The Karate Kid discussed Miyagi’s character.

Cobra Kai co-creator Josh Held has confirmed that there are talks of Mr. Miyagi returning.

Will Miyagi return to the Karate Kid franchise?

Pat Morita, the actor who brought Miyagi to life, passed away in 2005 and Cobra Kai was responsible for paying homage to his memory and character in various ways. However, fans are wondering if we will ever see Miyagi again.

In an interview with CinemaBlend, Held talked about the possibility of revisiting this beloved character.

We talked about it. I don’t think we’d pick Miyagi if we looked at Pat Morita-era Miyagi. You know, our minds race. We like to think who Mr. Miyagi was a century ago.

“Miyagi in Karate Kid: Part 2, we all know the story about coming of age and Sato. So, it’s not out of the question if we want to explore different eras of Mr. Miyagi in this franchise with another performance at some point.

Held also commented that they want to be careful about Miyagi.

I think we personally balked at the idea of going back to the timeline where Daniel meets Miyagi and doing that with someone other than Pat.

“So far in the series, we’ve been very careful with the use of images and shots. There was a scene where I shot Miyagi from behind when he was doing the yard work for the first time. But to turn his face and[show]it has to be a different era, or it has to be Pat. He has to look like Pat. I have to look like Pat. I think people would be shocked if they said, ‘Well, it’s 1986 and I don’t remember it.’

The final season of Cobra Kai arrives on Netflix on July 18.
