The Boys

A script twist with Joe Kessler in The Boys makes the highly anticipated reunion with Supernatural fans impossible.

As a loyal fan of ‘Supernatural’, I was excited to see the cast from Eric Kripke’s series appear on ‘The Boys’. From minor stars to more recognizable characters, many ‘Supernatural’ actors have entered the dark and violent ‘The Boys’ universe. However, a very happy reunion between the two stars seems unlikely now, and I can’t help but be disappointed.

A promising lineup

‘The Boys’ has featured several ‘Supernatural’ actors in each season. Nathan Mitchell, who plays Black Nor, and Rob Benedict, aka Splinter, are familiar faces to fans of the CW series. Even Jim Beaver makes direct references to his character Robert Singer. Seeing these actors reunite under Kripke’s direction is a real treat for fans.

But it was the meeting in ‘Gen V’ that made me appreciate the overlap between these two worlds. I was sure that the fourth season of ‘The Boys’ would pass from that moment. However, the latest twist in the Amazon series has made the much-anticipated reunion impossible, although a possible solution could be offered in ‘The Boys’ fifth season.

An unlikely reunion

The arrival of Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Joe Kessler in the fourth season of ‘The Boys’ has created huge expectations. Along with Jensen Ackles, who debuted as a soldier boy in the third season, they emerged as the perfect duo to revive the magic of ‘Supernatural’. However, the revelation that Morgan’s character is dead, and that Butcher is portraying him, destroys the possibility of a reunion between these two series actors.

In ‘Supernatural’, Morgan plays Ackles’ father, and seeing them together again in ‘The Boys’ was a treat for fans. The dynamic between them, now on opposite sides of the conflict, was amazing. Confronting a child soldier with Kesler’s hatred of superheroes would have brought a new dimension to their relationship, but without Kesler in the picture, that wouldn’t have been possible.

Flashback is not enough.

The only way we get to see Kessler and Soldier Boy interact is with the flashbacks. However, even this brings problems. Kessler would have had to be too young to match his 1984 debut as a child soldier, which meant reprising the role. Seeing a teenage Kessler doesn’t have the same impact as a direct confrontation between Morgan and Ackles.

For those who were hoping to see the Winchesters together again, this is a huge disappointment. But there is hope for an even more exciting reunion in the fifth season of ‘The Boys’.

Hope for the fifth season for men

Although there is no reunion between Morgan and Ackles, there is still a light at the end of the tunnel. Eric Kripke has hinted that Jared Padalecki, another big name from ‘Supernatural’, may appear in the final season of ‘The Boys’. Padalecki expressed interest in the idea, which would open the door to a reunion with Ackles on the Amazon series.

Seeing the Winchester brothers, Ackles and Padalecki, together again would be a great tribute to ‘Supernatural’. Whether as allies or foes, their on-screen chemistry is undeniable, and fans will be eager to see them reunite.

There is still hope.

Although ‘The Boys’ may not deliver the reunion between Morgan and Ackles that many had hoped for, the prospect of seeing Ackles and Padalecki together in season 5 holds hope. This reunion will not only be a treat for ‘Supernatural’ fans, but an opportunity for ‘The Boys’ to close out their relationship with the beloved CW series on a grand note.

Stay tuned as the ‘Boys’ may surprise us with an epic reunion in the finale of the season.
