The Godzilla x Kong universe, MonsterVerse, continues with a new movie and a new season of the franchise

MonsterVerse is back with a new sequel, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, but this time we won’t see Adam Wingard behind the cameras. Godzilla vs. Kong and his successor, Wingard, left his position to make way for Grant Spoutor.

Grant Sputter will be in charge of directing the sequel to Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. Sputor is best known for his work with Hilary Swank in the science fiction film I Am Mother, which was released on Netflix in 2019. The experience also includes commercials and several episodes of the television series Castaway. In addition, the sequel will have a script written by Dave Callaham, known for Shang-Chi and Legend of the Ten Rings.

Despite Wingard’s departure, there are no hard feelings between the director and the franchise. His absence is due to scheduling conflicts, as Legendary wants to start production as soon as possible after the financial success of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. Wingard, meanwhile, is committed to another project and will begin filming the action thriller Onslaught in the fall.

Adam Wingard has left the franchise (for now).

Adam Wingard wrote the story for Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire with Terry Rossio and Simon Barrett contributing the script, while Jeremy Slater contributed to the script. The film’s cast includes Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, Dan Stevens, Kaylee Hottle, Alex Ferns and Fala Chen. It is not yet known if any of these actors will return in the new episode or if an entirely new cast of human characters will be introduced. However, Godzilla and Kong will definitely return, possibly along with other major titans.

The official synopsis for Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire promises a new adventure that pits the mighty Kong and the terrifying Godzilla against an unknown colossal threat lurking in our world, challenging their survival and ours. The film explores the origins of these titans and the mysteries of Skull Island, the legendary war that helped create these extraordinary creatures, and their relationship with humanity.

The new director of MonsterVerse

Grant Spoutor has a huge responsibility as he directs the next installment of the MonsterVerse. Her film I Am Mother was appreciated for its unique approach and wonderful narration. With Sputore at the helm and Dave Callaham writing the script, fans can expect an exciting film that not only continues the Godzilla and Kong story, but explores new territories and characters.

The future of MonsterVerse looks bright. With the addition of Grant Sputor and a script by Dave Callaham, the franchise is poised to continue growing. Although Adam Wingard isn’t in this episode, his influence and narrative style left a mark on the MonsterVerse that will likely be felt in the films to come.

In short, Adam Wingard’s departure does not end his relationship with MonsterVerse, leaving open the possibility of a future return.
