Viggo Mortensen may reprise his iconic role in LOTR: The Hunt for Gollum.
Actor Viggo Mortensen, best known for portraying Aragorn in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, is considering portraying the legendary character in the upcoming live-action film The Hunt for Gollum. Mortensen, who played Aragorn, the Warden of the North and a vital member of the Fellowship of the Ring, began his journey with 2001’s The Fellowship of the Ring. Now, with the arrival of this new film, the possibility of the actor’s comeback is open.
Hopeful statements
In a recent interview with GK, Mortensen talked about his new film, the 1860s western set The Dead Don’t Hart, as well as the possibility of returning to Aragorn in the new Lord of the Rings installment. When The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey was announced, the actor expressed his willingness to play Aragorn if the story was confirmed. When asked if the same applied to The Hunt for Gollum, Mortensen gave an encouraging answer.
“Clearly. I don’t know exactly what the story is about, I haven’t heard anything. Maybe I’ll find out eventually,” he said. “I love playing that character. I learned a lot by doing it. I enjoyed it very much. I only do it if it’s appropriate for my current age and such. I only do it if it’s right for the character. It would be foolish to do otherwise.”

Aragorn was one of the most popular characters in the original Lord of the Rings trilogy. When first introduced in The Fellowship of the Ring, Aragorn is a wandering guardian very different from Isildur’s royal heir and king of Gondor. However, he has demonstrated loyalty, bravery, and skill in battle, making him a vital member of the Alliance.
In The Two Towers, the character’s warrior aspect is emphasized as the Alliance becomes more involved in the war in Middle-earth. Finally, with the return of the king, Aragorn becomes a fully fledged warlord and leader. His arc is one of the most compelling in the trilogy.
Viggo Mortensen not only brought the character of Aragorn to life with an unforgettable performance, but was deeply involved in creating the true atmosphere of the trilogy.
