Review of Vecna: Eve of Doom, a dark and challenging D&D campaign

Vecna: Eve of Doom is now available starting today, May 21st, 2024, so one of the longest episodes in D&D history (Dungeons and Dragons) can put adventurers in serious trouble. The legendary lich Vecna is performing a ritual to remove the good, destroy the gods, and bring the entire world to its knees. Before the universe is created to stop Vecna, the heroes and heroines will work with many famous archetypes, traveling to distant places and rebuilding the famous seven-part axis.

Vecna: Eve of Doom is a new challenge for Dungeons and Dragons fans.

In this new Vecna: Eve of Doom campaign, the feeling is that of being in a race where the chances of winning are constant. You’ll jump from place to place and take on classic villains on the field like Strahd, Acererak, and Tiamat. A unique boost that hasn’t been practiced in Dungeons and Dragons campaigns for a long time. Players start the campaign at level 10 (which is rare and pretty cool) and eventually reach level 20 where they are forced to face the evil lich’s machinations. This gives the story a unique feel as players strive to level up and save the Multiverse, as well as a send-up to the 5E setting when Dungeons and Dragons plans to release a new edition starting with the new version of the Player’s Handbook in September 2024.

What begins as a simple hostage rescue in the opening adventure ends with the player characters finding a bond with Vecna, which allows them to collect and spend secrets to gain certain advantages in the campaign. Later, thanks to a failed wishing spell, the characters are sent to Lady Alustriel’s Sigil Shrine, where they learn of Vecna’s plans to create the Multiverse. Thanks to Mordenkainen’s plan, the players set out to collect the scattered shaft of seven parts, hoping to use it to prevent Vekna from completing the ritual. Also, thanks to the Sanctum, you can find portals to different locations where the Rod Pieces are located.

It’s hard to talk too much about the story without revealing its incredible secrets, but players who manage to piece together all the pieces will be faced with plenty of dungeons, battles, and social interaction options. You can also team up with legendary characters like Alustriel, Tasha, and Mordenkainen, as well as rub shoulders (or heads) with the aforementioned evil creatures, all the way to the inevitable final showdown with Vecna himself. The good thing about the campaign is that you have to go through a lot of challenges and adventures to get there.
