Discover the secrets of an outcome that could change everything in Planet of the Apes.
The Planet of the Apes movie is now in theaters and, as usual, crucial plot details have started popping up online. In a recent interview with THR, Freya Allen, who plays Mae, explained how the original’s finale was so intense and a little subtle that it finally made it to the big screen.
A fateful decision with dire consequences
The climax of the film shows us in a battle where Mai makes the difficult decision to destroy the floodgates, in which the evil Proximus destroys hundreds of apes to prevent dangerous human technology. “It wasn’t something she wanted to do,” Allen said. But it was either that or letting Proximus get those weapons and destroy humanity. “She lost everyone she cared about,” the actress said. She explained that her actions were correct. Mae hopes that one of the monkeys, Noah, will survive, but what other choice does she have?
After the war, Mei visits the Eagle Clan village where Noh lives, and learns that she survived. In a tense scene, it is revealed that Mae is hiding a gun in case Noah seeks revenge. First, the meeting between Mae and Noah will have a more sinister tone. Allen explained: “In the version we filmed, May thought about killing him because she was afraid of his intelligence. “I didn’t want to do it, but I felt I had to do it.” In that version, May goes so far as to point the gun at Noah, but stops when he mentions Rakan’s name, leading to an emotional but sadly tense ending.
The vision of the director and the future of the saga
Wes Ball, the director of the Maze Runner trilogy, has given a new perspective to this international franchise. Set several generations after Caesar’s reign, in an era where apes dominate and humans are marginalized, the film explores themes of power and resistance. Led by a new tyrannical ape leader, a young ape embarks on a journey to question the past and make decisions that will shape the future of both apes and humanity.
The film stars Owen Teigen, Freya Allen, Kevin Durand, Peter McConnell and William H. Written by Josh Friedman and co-written by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, and produced by the likes of Joe Hartwick Jr. and Peter Chernin, the film promises to be a major chapter in the saga.
Mai, a character between bravery and vulnerability
Mae is the central character of Planet of the Apes, known for her emotional complexity and tough decisions. Their development in the film shows the tension between apes and humans, where the lines between good and evil are often blurred. Her inner struggle to do the right thing in difficult situations makes her a mirror of today’s society, where difficult decisions are often necessary for change.
Compared to Caesar, the former leader of the apes, May represents a new generation that faces different challenges. As Caesar struggles for peace and coexistence, May is pushed into darker, more obvious decisions. This contrast not only enriches the plot, but invites fans to reflect on the evolution of the leads in this iconic saga.
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes continues its tradition of exploring complex and moral conflicts, but they could have taken the narrative in a different direction. As for plans for more movies, depending on the response at the box office, the question remains open: Will we see May and Noah face off in the future? If you have seen the movie, don’t hesitate to share your feelings.
