Denis Villeneuve compared Dune to Godfather.
Dune director Denis Villeneuve thinks Paul Atreide (Timothee Chalamet) is the Michael Corlein of science fiction.
What happened to Paul Atreides?
In an interview with the New York Times, Villeneuve reflected on how Paul Atreides will end up in Dune 2 and ironically compared him to a dark character.
“He betrayed you in many ways [se refiere al personaje de Zendaya]. But the most important thing for Chaney is that it’s not about love. It’s about being the person who keeps the Fremen in their mental prison. A leader not to liberate the Fremen, but to control them. That is the tragedy of all tragedies. As science fiction’s Michael Corlin, he becomes what he seeks to avoid. And in episode three, he tries to find a way to save his life.
Michael Corleone is a character played by Al Pacino in Francis Ford Coppola’s The Godfather films. Michael becomes the crime boss of the family after the death of his father, Vito Corleone (Marlon Brando).
The scene from the second part of Dune that Villeneuve mentioned is at the end of the film, in which we see Paul challenge the emperor (Christopher Walken) for the throne and ask for his daughter Princess Irula (Florence Pugh) to marry him. The most shocking thing is that Chani (Zendaya) watches this moment in horror.
Dune 3 is officially in development, and will be an adaptation of Dune Messiah by author Frank Herbert.
