The minds behind Game of Thrones had plans to make a Star Wars trilogy.
Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and DB Weiss were originally going to create a new trilogy of Star Wars movies, but something happened between them and Lucasfilm that caused those plans to be scrapped.
Benioff and Weiss don’t want to return to the Star Wars universe.
In an interview with GamesRadar, Benioff commented that he and Weiss had no interest in working on any project in the Star Wars universe again, citing the lack of creative freedom in previously established franchises.
“I think when you have a well-established franchise like Star Wars or James Bond, etc., there’s less freedom when you try to tell the story that you want to tell. That’s why I think that’s what Daniel is [Weiss] We have learned that it is more fun to start something new.
If Benioff and Weiss want to tell stories with great creative freedom, it’s understandable that they don’t want to go back to big franchises. It’s good to have all kinds of projects because while we continue to enjoy movies or series, we can see original productions that surprise us.
