Gina Carano’s lawsuit claims she was kicked out of The Mandalorian because of her political views.
Gina Carano, Kara Dunn in The Mandalorian, has filed a lawsuit against Disney for being fired from the Star Wars franchise.
Gina Carano will fight.
Kara Dunn has been slowly gaining more prominence in the Star Wars universe, even rumored to be a key character in one of the franchise’s canceled shows. However, with Gina Caron’s departure in February 2021, the character disappeared from the saga. The actress went for a series of publications focusing on political issues.
Now Carano is fighting back and has filed a lawsuit in federal court in California alleging discrimination based on her political views. The actress said her writing was misrepresented because it “didn’t mesh with the accepted narrative of the time.” An important point about the lawsuit is that it is funded by Elon Musk. This funding shouldn’t come as a huge surprise, as Musk has promised to pay the legal bills of anyone with evidence of discrimination in his comments on Twitter.
Carano also pointed out that co-stars with different political views were not treated equally by Disney. This comment refers to a 2017 post by Pedro Pascal comparing Donald Trump to Adolf Hitler.
Additionally, the suit mentions that Disney asked the actress to take a series of steps to remedy the situation, but found them unacceptable. These included pressuring Caran’s publicist to apologize and attending a meeting with Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and 45 employees who are part of the LGBTQ+ community. Apparently, Carano refused and was kicked out of The Mandalorian.
What does Gina Carano want?
The complaint alleges wrongful termination and sex discrimination, for which Carano is seeking at least $75,000 in punitive damages and is awaiting a court order to keep Lucasfilm from hiring her.
