In the year 2023 was a tumultuous year for the film industry, with the screenwriters’ strike continuing with actors’ and actresses’ revolt against AI. 2024 seems to be a quiet year with a large number of films slated. In taste, colors, so it is complicated to choose among the most expected. Although it’s not an exact science, we’ve picked the 25 that had the most box office hits when the river sounded.
Sequels, prequels and nostalgia returns in mid-2024.
In the year Among the many projects expected in 2024, the return of franchises stands out, promising good global revenue. Many of the recommendations are in line with films that have already made a big impact at the cinema box office. In a year where the MCU has hit the pause button, the fight for the top spot will be tough, and Sony looks to take advantage of the gap by releasing an endless stream of movies.
Poor Things: Emma Stone to Direct New Take on Frankenstein Legend The joke is only made up, but the truth is that the film has shown that the film will bring fresh air to the franchise, with the trailer giving a lot to talk about. Premieres on January 19.
Ferrari: In the second month of 2024 comes Enzo Ferrari’s biography from director Michael Mann. Adam Driver and Penelope Cruz are the attractions of a movie that promises to light up one of the giant dark stages. Premieres on February 9.
MADAME WEBSITE: Sony continues the package, experimenting with characters from the Spiderman universe in “Suck Up” mode. After the unsatisfying ‘Morbius’, ‘Madame Web’ is a character who has some influence in the world of the arachnid’s neighbor and friend. It looks bad but it makes the box office. Premieres on February 14th.
Dune – Part 2: The success of the first part of this science fiction classic predicts a blockbuster second theatrical release. The story continues and promises a dramatic closure. The adaptation of Frank Herbert’s work was one of the victims of the writers’ strike that caused Warner’s delays. This only increased the expectations in this second episode. March 1st
Kung Fu Panda 4: For the little (and not so little) comes the fourth installment of the good natured, warrior, brave and funny panda. A perfect opportunity to enjoy the continuation of the legend of the Dragon Warrior in a new challenge, the character that has earned its place at the box office and on the stages. Premiere March 29
GHOSTBUSTERS, ICE CREAM EMPIRE: A serious competition for panda fighting, the second attempt to bring a successful franchise from the 90s was successful, so the second part has no idea and promises to destroy the box office. Premiere March 29
If Godzilla and Kong: The New Empire: Ghosts scares you at the box office, Clash of the Titans promises to shake your seats. After 2023, the Japanese giant will return to the fray, accompanied by King Kong, after becoming a character in series, animation and movies. Premieres April 12.
With the heat, come blockbusters and live fights.
Civil War: What would happen if the rise of extremism reached America and a new civil war broke out? So that’s the premise of this movie. At a time of extreme politics in the news, this pure action film depicts a dystopia that fills theaters. Premieres May 10.
FURIOSA: From the MAD MAX SAGA: Mad Max was an unexpected success, which had a sequel and now a prequel. In this case, Furiosa, a Saga character, is the perfect character for a movie designed to make money. With Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth, they twist the saga and stretch the gum even further. Premieres May 24.
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes: Finally the King of the Apes continues the story of Caesar. Finally comes a movie that unites classic movies with sequels. The circle closes with one of the most anticipated films of the year. It looks like a tough fight between the Sagas, which will premiere on the same day. Premieres May 24.
Ballerina: Keanu Reeves created his own saga with the John Wick universe, and to expand it, Ana de Armas took up arms (it was a simple joke) to repeat the blockbuster success, shooting, action scenes and impossible chases. Premieres June 7
Inside 2: The sequel to one of the best movies from the Pixar factory brings new characters and anxiety, which promises to get into the mood of the main character in adolescence. For children and adults who want to put their emotions into animation. Premieres June 14.
Horizon: An American Saga: Kevin Costner gets a taste for the Old West. Leaving his ‘Yellowstone’ project behind to focus on this film, the film promises to be packed with action and lots of shots. Premieres June 28
GRU: DESPIC 4: Another animated saga returns next year with a fourth installment where the minions steal the show again. Success is guaranteed in a franchise worthy of a sequel on its own merits. Premieres July 4. TWISTERS: The sequel to one of the biggest box office hits of the ’90s. Hurricanes return to the big screen in the summer natural disaster movie. There is no shortage of action and destruction scenes. Premieres July 19
Marvel isn’t there, Sony exploits, and we’re playing with Deadpool and Aliens.
DEADPOOL 3: Marvel takes a year of reflection and unleashes its craziest character to lead the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) box office. That would be the conclusion of a movie starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman that promises to blow up the multiverse and the box office. Expectations are high and the leaks are part of a strategy for a film that will create a lot of talk and promises to take superhero movies in a different direction. No trailer yet. Premieres July 26
Another 7: Ridley Scott, the father of the saga, said that he was impressed by this new installment of international horror. For this reason alone, it’s worth betting on a film with a history of ups and downs that will make the box office unrecognizable. It opens in August, without direct competition, and this makes it work as expected. PREMIERES AUGUST 16 KRAVEN THE HUNTER: Sony has used a year marked by Kevin Feige and his crowd to get excited about new releases. Kraven is one of Spiderman’s main enemies, and in anticipation of the date of the fourth installment, Sony is pulling out the catalog to present the Arachnid’s best villains. Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s return to the Marvel Universe, however, seems to be doing better than expected with Sony. Multiverses and their objects. Premieres August 30
Back to school, more fun with Transformers, symbiotes and creepy smiles.
BEETLEJUICE 2: Tim Barton returns to one of his craziest films, to give fresh air to what started out as one of Jena Ortega’s fashionistas, Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder, who also return in this sequel. Premiering September 6, Transformers: One: After clearly firing up the gear of the Saga films, this new animated installment arrives. It doesn’t seem like the box office success or the live-action movies will make an impact, but the release is good news for fans of the saga. Premiering September 13, Joker 2: Joaquin Phoenix surprises everyone and everyone with his portrayal of Batman’s No. 1 enemy. He returns with Lady Gaga to give life to one of the most depressing laughs in comedy. Premieres October 4.
Smile 2: From Evil Laugh to Scary Smile. This horror film was a huge success at the box office, which warranted a second part. Disturbing to say the least, the charming effect is felt in the pictures. Premieres October 18 VENOM 3: Sony has its hands on Spiderman’s main villain and insists on making him a hero. Even so, it works at the box office, so the third part will have an impact at the box office that you expect. Another thing would be the general displeasure that the Tom Hardy comic version caused. 3 Spiderverse villains in one year, smells like 6 cynics. Premieres November 8. Thriller 2: The sequel to Ridley Scott’s Oscar-winning film, this time with the emperor’s son, now an adult, as the main character. If it is close to the previous success, it is presented. It will be a guaranteed success at the box office and it doesn’t look bad. Premiering November 22. Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim: An animated film that takes us back to Middle-earth is poisoned candy. To think of a real version of one of the most famous battles of the early days and to have an animated version of these events is to leave it halfway. Still, it raises enough expectations to think about a phenomenal box office success. Premieres December 13
