In first in 1966, the original Space Ghost Hanna -Barbara’s cartoon presented the intergalactic heroes alongside her two acolytes – Jan, Jace, and their animal monkey, Blip to viewers. During the 42 original episodes of the series, viewers followed the ghost crew in many different adventures throughout the galaxy while they were fighting against bad guys such as Zorak, Moltar and Metallus. While most of these characters have never received complete stories, just like Space Ghost himself, the wicked of the Hanna-Barbara Saturday morning cartoon have become as emblematic as the cosmic protector and his acolytes.
While Space Ghost would inaugurate the golden age of the programming of superhero on Saturday morning, it was only in the 90s that the character and his casting of bad guys would cement themselves in pop culture with their rebirth in the series of adult swimming, Space Ghost: Coast to Coast. The talk show of mutual aid was a major success of the 90s and included many emblematic villains of Space Ghost as part of its television team. Space Ghost is currently experiencing another resurgence in the Dynamite 2024 Space Ghost Series (by David PEPOSSE, Jonathan Lou, Andrew Dalhouse and Taylor Esposito), who reinvented the hero’s somers’ gallery for a whole new generation.

The Energy Monster was also presented in Space Ghost # 2 (by David Pipose, Jonathan Lau, Andrew Dalhouse and Taylor Esposito), where Jace and Blip are attacked, similar to the original episode. The ghost crew defeated the monster by activating a radio tower which transformed it into radio waves and dispersed it in the next solar system.
While Space Ghost defeated the Energy monster in the original cartoon, the new comic strip series proved that he was not laughing. With its powers to absorb all forms of energy, the monster was almost able to eliminate the cosmic hero and even take a full power explosion of the Ghost space terraformings. The monster was so powerful that Jan even speculated that she could potentially consume the whole ghost planet.
